Together, let’s strive to make Alzheimer’s Disease a thing of the past!
Imagine waking up one morning and your spouse/loved one asking you, “Who are you? What are you doing in my bed?” Equally as devastating, imagine you as the person asking the question. It’s not a scenario that anyone could even begin to accept that they, one day, may be in this position. Yet, no one – not you, nor I – has any guarantee that this will not happen to them or to someone they love. The risk for Alzheimer’s Disease increases greatly every 5 years from the age of 65 on.
Statistics say that Americans between the ages of 80 – 85 run a 60% risk of becoming afflicted with Alzheimer’s. Can any of us afford to gamble that this will not happen to us or to someone we love?
Memory loss is just one of the many symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, perhaps the most widely known because it’s one of the first symptoms that families of AD patients notice. Ask any survivor of a natural catastrophe what their biggest loss is. After the loss of life, which, of course, is monumental, the next biggest loss is that of their memories and sense of family history in the form of irreplaceable photographs, heirlooms, etc. We can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like to have your “brain disk” wiped clean, much like a CD that has been erased.
Yet memory impairment is just the beginning of a series of many degenerative symptoms that follow. In the later stages of Alzheimer's, the patient loses the ability to talk, walk, use the toilet, dress and groom independently, etc. If you've ever visited an Alzheimer's unit in a nursing home, you will see many patients in their wheel chair, staring idly and many times drooling from the side of their mouth… It's devasting to watch and even more devastating when you experience it in your own household.
The Alzheimer's CURE Foundation is passionately committed to putting a stop to this tragedy. We are a non-profit organization with an innovative concept: Our goal is to raise and award a $20 million dollar cash prize that will serve as the "Gold Medal" for the researcher(s) who discover the cure for Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Through this groundbreaking concept, we hope to introduce some vibrant competition to the scientific world and act as the catalyst that will spur medical research to exciting new heights at a greatly accelerated pace.
The cash prize will not go to the laboratory, pharmaceutical company, school, or hospital where the medical trials are held, but to the actual person or team of people who discover the Cure.
You can help by generously donating to our organization. We are a 501(c) (3) organization and your donations are tax exempt to the full extent of the law, with all the tax benefits that are implied. This is the best investment ever in your future and that of your loved ones.
In our country alone, there are approximately 5.5 million Americans suffering from AD. When you add to that number the devastated family members and loved ones who watch them deteriorate day by day, you have the full impact of this disease. Worldwide, the numbers are many millions more. All these Alzheimer’s patients from around the globe are waiting for the Cure. These figures are expected to triple and quadruple within the next few years as Baby Boomers age. In 2006, the first Boomers turned 60. No one is exempt from this insidious disease. Alzheimer’s has no geographical boundaries and does not discriminate based on social standing, gender, race, religion or any other criteria. Presidents and paupers, rich and poor, men and women, white and black alike, all can be afflicted. Who, amongst us, was left untouched by President Reagan’s letter to the American public announcing his AD diagnosis?
A breakthrough in Alzheimer’s not only cure virtually all forms of dementia, but will also open the door wide towards a Cure for many other neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s, Huntington's Disease, etc., neurological birth defects in preemies and infants, autism in children, stroke-related brain disorder, etc.
The only sure way of preserving your memories is to help make this an Alzheimer’s-free world.
